I won’t debate the ethics of ripping and sharing CDs in this post. Suffice it to say that folks who know me know my stand on this issue. Where I can get audiobooks already in MP3 format I just do that. It saves a LOT of hassle. I even will get them in DRM’d format … Continue reading How to rip an audiobook to iTunes so it has bookmarks
I heard recently about thieves who were using handheld RFID scanners to determine the contents of tractor trailer trucks to see which ones would be worth breaking into. Such a double-edged sword can be these devices which offer so much convenience for retailers to maintain their inventory. One of the practices that keep shoppers safe, … Continue reading Prediction: Within 2 years it will be pretty common for thieves to be using RFID
As someone who was in residence in Gate House for two years (I had the great two level corner room all to myself for that second year) I read this with both some alarm and some amusement. This article was forwarded to me by another Gate House Alum whom I won’t name in case he … Continue reading *Sniff* Gate House takes it in the shorts
It’s too bad that they don’t actually tell you about this when you are, I don’t know, actually purchasing your computer! I picked up a new Dell Inspiron 530 computer back in early October of 2007 and saw that, in spite of having paid for 4 Gigabytes of RAM, the system reported only 3.2 Gigabytes. … Continue reading You have Vista on a computer reporting only 3.2 Gigabytes of RAM on a system with 4 Gigabytes installed
We share our music library by keeping separate copies on each of our machines. This works MUCH better then trying to share using a network drive (speed-wise). I originally posted about this a couple of years ago but it’s funny enough that I thought I would revisit it. Or click directly right here. Make sure you have the sound turned on. Watch and listen, there’s a whole bunch of little stories going on in that globe. But the real fun comes when … Continue reading Christmas Cheer revisited
If you enjoyed Jill’s song you’ll probably enjoy this tongue in cheek offering from TED talks. This one about Global Warming. The first 25 seconds of TED credits are always a little much but the content of ANY TED talk is worth it. I subscribe to both the video and audio TED feeds and heartily … Continue reading TED Talks – Jill Sobule
Now that we’ve had a few months to live with and consider some of our renovation choices I just wanted to share some of my thoughts. One big change that I would make is to NOT go with fitting the standalone bathtub into an alcove. Even though they offer the bead kit that will prevent … Continue reading Renovations – a couple of months later
My department at work held its annual Thanksgiving potluck lunch. I decided I’d make some of my chocolate chip cookies for this event and set to work. I’ve been tailoring this recipe for years now. When I found I was going to be a little light on the flour I rationalized that the original recipe … Continue reading Cookie Lesson Learned
Mich and I just finished watching Nova’s “Judgment Day: Intelligent Design on Trial” on PBS. I was very pleased to see that the ID proponents got their butts handed to them in their outrageous attempt to further dilute what is already considered to be a shaky science curriculum. We very much need to grow up, … Continue reading Judgment Day: Intelligent Design on Trial
