This song is just so infectious that once I hear it I just can’t get it out of my head. I’m also a sucker for the virtual camera angles and the overall quality of the production. This is a really great piece of work.

Christmas Cheer revisited
I originally posted about this a couple of years ago but it’s funny enough that I thought I would revisit it.
Or click directly right here. Make sure you have the sound turned on. Watch and listen, there’s a whole bunch of little stories going on in that globe. But the real fun comes when you give it a shake…
“Zero G Puke”
Yech!
I can honestly say I’ve only ever had one person throw up in a plane while I was flying. It was while I was still taking lessons and we took a passenger along since she’d expressed an interest in checking out the flying thing.
The nice thing about air-sickness is, once you actually finish heaving, you feel fine afterward. We went out and had lunch afterward.
Now this video takes your air-sickness scenario and goes over the top. I have no idea how the camera was mounted to capture this but it is very stable.
If you’re *really* squeamish you should probably give this a pass, but otherwise it’s great for a laugh!
Cookie Lesson Learned
My department at work held its annual Thanksgiving potluck lunch. I decided I’d make some of my chocolate chip cookies for this event and set to work.
I’ve been tailoring this recipe for years now. When I found I was going to be a little light on the flour I rationalized that the original recipe had actually only called for exactly as much flour as I had available so I would just go with what I had.
Unfortunately, it seems some of the other “tweaks” I’ve made to the recipe over the years depend on the right proportion of flour and the dough melted rapidly and spread out on the cookie sheets. There it browned rather nicely and became somewhat crispy such that, when I tried to pull up the cookies with a spatula, the outer, crisped edges broke away. Leaving me with a bunch of soft “cookie hearts” that, while still tasting great, looked absolutely wretched.
I *was* able to salvage some cookies (they turned out OK due, presumably, to temperature differences between the upper and lower oven racks) but the vast majority I didn’t think looked very appealing (they’re in the foreground below)…
So I ended up buying some pastries and will next time go out and get the flour when I’m low!
Yeah, but it’s a dry cold…
There are a lot of differences that I find living in the Southeast vs. in the Great White North.
For instance, this morning I awoke to two severe weather alerts, the first being a red flag warning (critical fire conditions) and the second being a freeze warning. Of course this is perfectly reasonable once you think about it for a little bit, but fire and ice are always referenced as diametrically opposed conditions.

Kevin Smith Protests Dogma
How can you NOT like Kevin Smith? The man’s an absolute genius. Dogma is one of the most (simultaneously) funny and thought provoking film poking fun at the dogma that surrounds the Catholic church.
It’s just too funny that he insinuated himself into the sorry crowd of protesters in his own home town of New Jersey. Hmmm.. do you suppose they might have recognized him had any of them actually… I dunno… *seen* the film? 🙂
And I’m a big fan of Alan Rickman’s work, especially when he’s playing a humorous character. He is GREAT in this film as he was great in “Robin Hood” as the evil Sherrif of Nottingham.
Cat vs. Toilet Paper
My main question has to be “What would Sheryl Crow have to say about this?”.
This is worth a great laugh though. The tenacity of that cat is laudable. I just wouldn’t want to live in that house with a case of “Montezuma’s revenge”!
Superheros have their problems too
I’m somewhat a closet fan of “Robot Chicken” on Adult Swim. It has its hits and its misses but the absolute funniest vignette was a “Real World” parody featuring a bunch of the superheros from my childhood. If you get a chance to catch it you won’t regret it!
This little video reminded me of that skit and really is very well done. Minimalist in its execution it’s just a good laugh.
Star Trek: “Time Warp”
I was put onto this by Phil Plait’s “Bad Astronomy” blog.
Yes, I’ll admit it, I’m a geek and also recognized the lion’s share of the clips shown here. *AND* I like the Rocky Horror Picture show…
I can’t even begin to imagine how much time and effort has to go into deciding on, collecting and then bringing together all the elements required to make something like this. It truly must be a labor of (geek) love…
Internet Commenter Business Meeting
Translating all of the nonsense that goes on in Internet discussion forums to what they would look like if the same sort of behavior happened between live people in a business setting… brilliant! Irritating, but brilliant!
When I peruse discussion groups – often as a result of a Google search – I usually only read as far as the first one or two trolls and then move on. In unmoderated settings you can almost predict how quickly the discussion will degrade into sophomoric shouting matches.
This doesn’t eliminate the usefulness of these forums but it does cap it.
For anybody who has ever participated or even lurked in these arenas, enjoy! 🙂
